ΒιΆΉΙη receives $150,000 grant to explore AI innovation in education

ΒιΆΉΙη has been awarded a $150,000 planning grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can transform teaching, learning and career preparation at the university. The grant will help ΒιΆΉΙη investigate new opportunities to enhance teaching and learning, support faculty development, engage with industry partners and improve institutional practices. It will also initiative collaboration across campus and with external partners to identify innovative approaches and opportunities for improvement.

β€œThis is an exciting opportunity for ΒιΆΉΙη to deepen our understanding of how artificial intelligence can transform higher education,” said ΒιΆΉΙη President Karl W. Einolf, PhD. β€œBy collaborating with external partners and industry leaders, we can explore innovative approaches that enhance teaching, learning and career preparation. This award builds on ΒιΆΉΙη’s ongoing efforts to advance technology-enhanced learning and provide transformative educational experiences for all of our students.”

This grant comes to ΒιΆΉΙη through Lilly Endowment’s Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education initiative, which was developed to support Indiana colleges and universities in their efforts to address the implications of a rapidly evolving technology in their institutions and in the lives of their students. Lilly Endowment made similar planning grants to a total of 35 eligible higher education institutions in Indiana through the initiative.

The aim of the initiative is to help Indiana colleges and universities:

  • Consider more fully the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence presents for their institutions and their students
  • Develop new or enhance existing strategies and programs to improve their students’ education outcomes and their preparation to prosper in the workplace and life in a future that will be increasingly shaped by AI
